Clearwell Castle Wedding | Charlotte and PAUL | Forest of Dean
Clearwell Castle is a picturesque wedding venue set in twenty acres of well-kept grounds, including a croquet lawn and cocktail terrace; providing endless photographic opportunities to capture your wedding day. Clearwell is nestled in the romantic Forest of Dean allowing for some stunning background scenery to admire and utilise on your special day. The grandeur staircase leading to the main entrance to this stunning building allows for unique family group shots that encapsulate your personalities perfectly. This gorgeous venue boasts 15 luxurious castle rooms, three estate cottages and 24 newly refurbished guest rooms in the lovely Crosswell House, only a short stroll away; providing a plentiful supply of accommodation for your wedding party the night before and on the day of your wedding.
It was an early start for me, being a Cardiff wedding photographer I really enjoy travelling to other parts of the UK but it does mean 5am wake up calls by my not so melodic alarm! With my bags packed I was on my way, satnav set for the Forest of Dean I love the morning preps of the wedding couple, as it allows me to capture those intimate moments that are shared between friends and family before the ceremony and also those special moments of your children trying on mummy’s shoes or daddy’s jacket.
The 75-foot long aisle in the ceremony room allows me to capture plenty of emotions expressed by you, your partner and the rest of your wedding party as you walk down the aisle to tie the knot and I even manage to get some cheeky smiles at times too. I was only second shooting at this venue so my good photography and personal friend Pedge was taking the primary shots of the ceremony. But that didn’t stop me from capturing some beautiful shots of Charlotte and her bridal party walking down the aisle and Charlotte sharing her first kiss with her partner Paul as man and wife.
The couple portraits
The family run venue provides plenty of opportunities regardless of the weather, with the mentioned stunning grounds providing a lovely stroll around with me capturing both natural laughter and dramatic posing. But if it does rain on your big day at Clearwell Castle please don’t panic, the stunning architecture on the inside of the castle also provides endless opportunities to take advantage of. Charlotte and Paul absolutely rocked their couple portraits which only too 20 minutes to take thanks to their amazing cooperation. I try to keep my couples with their families as much as possible on their big day, with me pinching them for at most three 20 minute stints throughout the day to capture some stunning wedding photographs.
The wedding reception
After taking some lovely wedding portraits we all sat down to a lovely wedding breakfast. My favourite was the chocolate cake desert! As your wedding photographer we do request you provide us with food as we can be there for up to 16 hours, which is a long time on an empty stomach! But we never expect what you have, unless you’re really awesome!
Following on from a stunning three course meal (I could barely move!) were those famous speeches. Three very confident young men stood up and took front centre stage to give dad Paul a funny yet sentimental best mens speech. As always, there were some lovely words said about the couple including their love for jäger bombs, which were kindly given as favours to everyone.
Now it’s time to party and dance like nobodies watching! Charlotte and Paul shared some lovely moments on the dance floor before inviting everyone up to start the disco. I even put my cameras down and started dancing with nan, this is very typical of me however haha.
