Documentary Wedding Photographer

About Oliver Rees Photography

Based in Cardiff, we describe ourselves as a documentary wedding photographer with a creative twist. The reactions we get off of our clients when looking at their wedding photos, some they didn’t even know we had taken! is truly priceless.

Our business consists of two people, Oliver who is the photographer, terrible dancer and your best friend on the big day. And Lauren, an amazing photography assistant who will aid you in anyway she can. We want you to feel as relaxed as possible on your big day and nothing is too much trouble for us.

Your wedding day is a chapter in your families story and our job is to capture your special moments in a documentary and candid way. We don’t pose our couples, instead we get you bumping into each other, whispering jokes into each-others ears and loads more fun games to get those natural shots.

Over the past five years we have had the pleasure of photographing weddings at several amazing wedding venues (Cobbles, Canada Lodge, Court Colman Manor, Fairy Hill, Elmore Court, St Fagans, Llanerch Vineyard and so many more!). A job of a wedding photographer is a truly amazing one!

We absolutely love our job and the stories we have captured for our couples (Real Weddings). Seeing our couples reactions to their wedding photos brings us so much happiness, as we want you to be able to relive your special day for years to come.

If you are thinking of booking us to be your wedding photographer please don’t hesitate to contact us. We love having chats with potential wedding couples, its always amazing hearing about your story and how we can capture the next chapter.

Cardiff UK Wedding Photographer
The main man behind the camera! A bad dancer, jammie dodger eater and awesome photographer. Oliver loves working with couples who want to spend time capturing those epic/wow shots but also snapping away at the nannas taking photos on their ipads, the belly laughing uncle bobs and those special family moments that take place on your wedding day. When he's not photographing, he's probably at the DJ booth requesting wedding cheesy classics (make sure you add Cotton Eye Joe to your evening tunes!)

Lauren works behind the scenes to ensure that your wedding day photos are captured exactly how you imagine them to be. She also acts as our very own HLS (human light stand) out on photoshoots, and can often be seen with a clipboard and checklists to ensure we're on track to capture any requested group shots or must-have moments. She's the creative genius of the duo (yes I wrote that as I'm building our new website, snazzy eh?) and loves seeing our couples on their wedding day journey (trying to hold back the tears at first dance is HARD!).

Where are you based?
We are based near Pontypridd, just on the outskirts of Cardiff in South Wales. You'll often find us at venues in Cardiff, Bridgend, Brecon and Monmouthshire but we love shooting further afield too! Travel up to 60 miles from Pontypridd is included in our packages, events and weddings outside of this area will incur a small fee to cover travel/accommodation.
How long do you stay for on a wedding day?
All day! We arrive when you tell us to arrive and we leave when you tell us to leave. Luckily we can get Coronation Street on demand so there's no need to rush off 😉
How many card slots do your cameras have?
All of our cameras have 2 card slots inside so that means your photos are constantly being backed up to a secondary card. To take that one step further, we perform backups throughout the day onto a hard drive to minimise any risks.
What's your favourite song?
Oliver loves wedding cheesy classics (if you read the small-print, you’ll know 😉 ) and Lauren is sadly a massive Westlife fan - some people just can’t be helped!
Should we feed you?
Yes please! Sometimes we can go 8-10 hours without food - it’s a little bit of a whirlwind of a day! We kindly ask that food is provided for our team (A maximum of 3 people if you have a second shooter). We don’t expect a three course meal at all, we just request some sandwiches and squash/water to be made available to us so we don’t have to go off-site in search for food. We’ll take a food break when you and your guests sit down to eat and perform a photo back-up during that time. Oh and did we mention we love the evening buffet 😉
Are you insured?
We are indeed and insist that all of our second shooters are too. You can ask to see our insurance certificate if you wish or if it's required by your venue.
Do you require a deposit?
We ask that a £200 deposit is paid in order to secure your wedding day, with the remaining balance paid a month prior to your wedding date. Family/portraiture/outdoor shoots require a 50% deposit and full payment before the shoot.
Can we meet you before the wedding day?
100%. We always like to chat to our couples before they book us. We will spend a lot of time with you and you wouldn't want a stranger at your wedding! It's important to us that we match, get along and both want to create some epic shots! We like to meet via skype/zoom to have a chat or in person if we can (pandemic permitting!) so you can take a look at our beautiful products.
What safety measures are you taking during the Coronavirus outbreak?
Safety is our top priority during Coronavirus. We also want to make sure we're here for our clients - we can help you plan/vent/postpone or just be here to listen during difficult times. For more information on Coronavirus and the changes we're making please see our Coronavirus measures page https://oliverreesphotography.com/coronavirus-measures/
