Holly and Scott’s Wedding at Court Colman Manor

Court Colman is a favourite Bridgend wedding venue of ours, with its stunning architecture encapsulated in six acres of beautiful grounds making a beautiful canvas for a creative wedding photographer to work from.

The manor is only a 30 minute drive from Cardiff City Centre and as a Cardiff Wedding photographer, we always highly recommend Court Colman as a rural wedding venue for our couples. Whether you’re looking for a huge 180 guest wedding or a smaller, more intimate day, you can rely on Court Colman to be the perfect venue.

Bridal Prep at Court Colman Manor

We caught up with Holly in the spacious and contemporary bridal suite where preparations were in full swing. As kindly requested by us, Holly had brilliantly organised all of her details ready for us to capture when we arrived. We like to capture those detail shots when we arrive as they quickly get used up in bridal hair, bouquets etc. It also allows us to have a good chat with the bridal party and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. As a Court Colman Wedding Photographer, it is highly important to us that everyone feels comfortable around us on the big day, we are there to assist anyone and in anyway we can.

Holly had seen one of our very first weddings at Court Colman during our initial meeting and she fell in love with the wedding dress shot we captured. So it was immediately decided that she wanted the same with her beautiful Wedding Belles dress that was detailed with a stunning lace pattern and a trail that made Holly look like a true princess!

The bridesmaids were given very thoughtful gifts from Holly, with scented candles, personalised notes and other goodies. Capturing the bridesmaids reaction was a treat, with some of the personalised gifts making for some fantastic individual reactions. We even got Holly in on the action by getting them to all share embarrassing stories of Holly, which had us all laughing uncontrollably.

Groom Prep at Court Colman Manor

Normally we advise couples look at getting a second shooter if they want groom prep covered, as they typically get ready at a completely different location making it difficult for us to cover the two. Take a look at our blog on why you may need a second shooter (Click Here). Scott however, decided to utilise one of the many uniquely decorated rooms at Court Colman to get ready, making it only a ten second walk for us from Bridal prep.

As per usual, the guys were all still in their boxers until 20 minutes before they needed to be downstairs to talk with the registrar. So with a quick nudge by Oliver, they all got dressed in a blink of an eye with some banter flying around the room. These jokes make for brilliant candid moments in every couples wedding album.

We then grabbed the guys outside for some shots of them all dressed up before the ceremony. This is typically where we ask the guys to walk towards the camera, giving each other a gentle nudge to get those fun reactions. We love capturing the guys having a laugh with one and other as they make great shots in the couples album.

Court Colman Manor wedding ceremony

We love the ceremony room at Court Colman. There’s loads of natural light coming through those huge windows at the front and the decor is so ornate, making the perfect backdrop for you to walk down the aisle. Holly and Scott’s friends and family watched the two tie the knot in a lovely ceremony conducted by the registrar. However, we couldn’t ignore the star of the show, baby Tobi who made us all laugh during the service.

Wedding photos at Court Colman Manor

Straight after the ceremony is typically when we capture most pictures. Everybody headed out to the front of Court Colman to do a confetti tunnel, which is becoming a tradition of ours! It’s a great spot for confetti with plenty of room for guests to make a line outside of the entrance hall.

Once the confetti is suitably everywhere it’s usually time to move onto group shots before people make a run for the bar! We gathered everybody for one big group shot and headed down to a lovely shaded spot for the smaller group photos.

After ticking off out group photo list, it was time to shoot off with Holly and Scott for 20 minutes and capture some stunning photos of the two of them. We wandered through the vast grounds of Court Colman where we were spoilt for choice when it came to backdrops. As well as the huge manor building there are also some awesome views so it’s always nice to take a stroll down the driveway! As Holly and Scott were called in to check their room setup, decorated by the very talented That finishing touch, we couldn’t help but grab one more couple shot inside of the ceremony room. This little creative moment went on to become one of our favourite shots from the day!

Wedding Reception at Court Colman Manor

It was time to gather everybody back inside for the next part of the day. Holly and Scott kindly fed us both with a delicious meal which we’re always super grateful for. After re-fuelling with food, it was time for some speeches which always prompt those emotions – there are always tears, laughter and lots of memories shared between friends and family.

The day seemed to be flying by and before we knew it, the sun was starting to set. It was the perfect opportunity to race outside for some gorgeous golden hour shots! We don’t always get golden hour, living in rainy Wales, so when we see that glowy light we always try to make the most of it! We took another stroll down the driveway and captured some shots near the tree swing, complete with some epic sun flares!

Lauren began the couple’s quick edits from the day (they were inspected by Ollie the Court Colman cat) whilst Oliver set up some lighting for the first dance shots. Even though your DJ may have a lighting setup, we like to add some little star bursts lights either side to get the best shots!

The evening kicked off with the cake cutting, although it was a shame to cut such a stunning cake by Centre stage cakes! This was followed by a lovely first dance, we always love first dances at Court Colman as there’s lots of room for everybody to gather round and watch the newlyweds.

As always, we like to capture.a night time shot and this one was a little more spontaneous! The groomsmen grabbed us for a cigar shot outside, we added a flash behind them and boom! A unique and epic photo to finish the day!

Thank you Scott and Holly for being such a great couple. It was a pleasure to share your day with you. A shoutout also to Court Colman for being great hosts and looking after us once again.

Kind Words from the couple

” Straight away we knew Oliver was the photographer for us! He made us feel relaxed from the initial meeting and was a calming influencer on the day of our Wedding, especially when we were all getting ready in the morning! He made sure to capture the perfect shots and got some amazing photos of me and my husband who absolutely hates the camera! We are delighted with our photos and would recommend him to any couples booking their wedding! Thank you again! X “
