We had the privilege of capturing Emma and Matts wedding day at the beautiful St Donats castle. This grandeur building was constructed in the 14th century lying on the promontory with precipitous cliffs to the west providing the perfect location for a wedding day by the sea. We love being a St Donats Castle Wedding Photographer, with this tremendous venue being a creative wedding photographers dream.

Groom prep

Matt decided to get ready at the West House hotel in the Vale of Glamorgan. We arrived in the early hours of the morning where the gents were surprisingly already dressed and ready to go. This was a huge shock as groomsmen are notoriously still in their boxer shorts until 10-minutes before they need to leave (sorry guys but its true). Matt was a tad nervous and just wanted to ensure everything at St Donats castle was all ready for the day ahead.

West House Hotel has some beautiful gardens which we made use of for those all important groom prep photos, with the lads providing very entertaining banter to matt. We love these kind of shots, as it shows true emotion and the groomsmen’s personalities. We are not a huge fan of posing and would rather capture those natural candid moments.

Matt was also gifted a beautiful custom made box with all of his favourite things inside, with a personal note from Emma that made for a beautiful set of images. take a look at “What to buy your groom on your wedding day” blog for more ideas!

Ceremony

The ceremony room/ grand hall in St Donats Castle is absolutely breath taking with sky-high ceilings encased in wooden beams and stone brick. You genuinely feel like you are in Hogwarts, it is truly spectacular. Following Emma and Matts stunning ceremony it was time for the confetti shots which took place in the gardens adjacent to the ceremony room, overlooking the sea.

Couple Shots

We couldn’t not take Emma and Matt down to the beach front. The views were too stunning to miss. We had so much fun down at the beach and found out that Emma had gone for the rather unconventional but equally as awesome choice in wedding shoes. You’ll have to scroll down and take a look at the photos to find out what I mean.

Reception

Following a lovely set of speeches provided by close friends and family it was time to tuck into the beautiful beef dinner that was kindly provided by the castle kitchen staff. It is always extremely nice to receive a hot meal after working tirelessly all day to capture those once in a lifetime memories.

Evening

Remember the cigars Matt had as a gift earlier on in the day? Well we certainly did! The entrance to the castle made for the perfect location for some dramatic couple and groomsmen shots of the guys smoking their cigars. The end result is just phenomenal! We couldn’t be more happy with how they turned out.
